On the sidelines of the 6th Conference of foreign ministers of Southeast Europe organized by the Aspen Institute in Berlin, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati held several bilateral meetings, focusing on strengthening mutual cooperation between Albania and Germany.

In this framework, Minister Bushati was received by the Minister of State for European Affairs, Michael Roth. During the meeting, Minister Bushati praised the EU progress report on Albania and highlighted the preparations of the Albanian party to implement reforms and fulfill the criteria which will enable the advancement of our country towards the EU. On his part, Minister Roth congratulated Albania’s commitment to the process of state building reforms, praising the dynamism of Albania and its European commitment. The two ministers also discussed recent developments in the Balkans, as well as the stabilizing and active role of Albania in the region.

Moreover, Minister Bushati also held meetings with the Vice President of the German Bundestag, Mr. Johannes Singhammer, and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on EU Affairs, Mr. Günther Krichbaum. Minister Bushati appreciated the role of Germany as a promoter of integration processes in the Balkans and extended his gratitude for the support given to Albania in receiving the EU candidate country status. Furthermore, he stated that "the process launched in Berlin, under the auspices of Chancellor Merkel, is a good opportunity to deepen cooperation among regional countries but also to provide a clearer perspective of the EU in the region". Vice President Singhammer praised the fact that after the Berlin Conference, political-diplomatic relations between our two countries have experienced a significant boost.

Positive reforms undertaken by the Albanian government, mainly those concerning the rule of law in economy, were also highly praised.
