Minister Bushati attends Western Balkans Summit in Berlin

Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati attended the High Level Conference on the Western Balkans held by the German Government in Berlin, under the auspices of Chancellor Angela Merkel. Our delegation at this conference was led by Prime Minister Edi Rama. 

This High Level Conference reconfirmed the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries, while highlighting and promoting regional cooperation, both in political and macroeconomic terms. 

In his speech held during the Foreign Ministers’ segment, Minister Bushati underlined the importance of making this initiative periodical, as well as finding the right instruments to enable, in future years, the drafting and implementation of concrete joint projects in the region, to arouse the interest of potential German and European investors as a whole. 

Minister Bushati also noted the major changes in the field of security and geopolitics in Europe, underlining the importance that should be given to geopolitical aspects in the enlargement process, which he considered a performance-driven process based on merit, but preserving at the same time its credibility and predictability. 

Meanwhile, in his speech, German Foreign Minister Frank. W. Steinmeier stated that this conference reiterates the German commitment to the Western Balkan region, giving us the opportunity to assess the current progress of the region in its path towards the EU, as well as discuss issues that are crucial to the pace and success of its advancement towards the EU.
